Dual camera for parents: the kid and your face, same instant

Last updated:

First steps, first bike ride, the school play — parents film everything and appear in nothing. Dual capture fixes the family-archive gap: the kid on the back camera, the parent’s reaction on the front, one file.

Short answer: Selfie shoots photos and videos with the front and back cameras at the same time, picture-in-picture, with 50+ vintage camera presets that apply to both. One tap captures both perspectives — no stitching, no second take.

Ideas that work

  • Milestones: the wobbling first steps and your face watching them — the photo the grandparents actually want.
  • The school play: stage on the back camera, proud-parent close-up on the front.
  • Film preset for the album: 35mm look makes today’s photos match the family albums you grew up with.

How to set it up

  1. Open Selfie in Dual mode (the default).
  2. Drag the picture-in-picture window to the corner you want, and pick a frame color if you like.
  3. Optionally pick a camera preset — 35mm film, instant, VHS and 50+ more render live on both cameras.
  4. Tap the shutter for a photo, or switch to video mode and record with sound.

Frequently asked questions

Are the two views taken at exactly the same time? Yes. Selfie runs both cameras in one capture session using Apple’s multi-cam engine, so front and back are exposed simultaneously — not one after the other.

Can I record video this way? Yes — dual video records both cameras at once, with microphone audio.

Can I choose which camera is the big view? Yes, and the small window can sit in any corner, with a choice of frame colors.

What does it cost? Selfie is free to download and try. The Pro subscription (weekly or annual) unlocks unlimited dual-camera shots and all premium presets.
